The following is a recording discussing some of the issues people have when considering whether to use hypnosis. From the acoustic point of view, the recording is a poor on. However, the information is accurate. There are a couple of caveats. First there is the assumption that a person is going to an ethical hypnotist and second that the discussion regarding who can be hypnotized applies to working with a hypnotist. There is credible evidence that ALL humans naturally go in and out of a mild trance state every day of their lives.
You may find grammatical errors in the transcript, but is has been transcribed as spoken.
The following is a transcript of the audio, you choose which to use. Maybe you will decide to listen and read. It’s up to you!
This recording is an introduction to hypnosis. On it I will answer many questions people have brought up in regards to hypnosis and what is and what it is not.
In order to understand hypnosis, you need to know that it is a natural process that you go through many times every day. If you’ve ever been driving a car on your way home and then don’t remember if you stopped at a stop sign or whether the last light was red or green, you were in a light hypnotic trance state. Each day just before sleep you go through another light trance state, and upon each morning the same is true.
So what is hypnosis?
Will I give control of my mind to the hypnotist?
How I know whether or not I’m in a hypnotic trance?
Will I be asleep?
Can the hypnotist make me do things that are against my morals my personality or my ethical beliefs?
What if the hypnotist cannot get me out of the hypnotic trance will I be stuck there forever?
If I let somebody hypnotized me will it weaken my mind?
Once I’ve been hypnotized, does that mean that anybody can hypnotize me anytime they want?
What if the hypnotist tells me something that I disagree with or don’t want to accept can I reject it?
Will the hypnotist change things that I don’t want changed?
What kinds of suggestions will the hypnotist give me?
This CD will speak to each one of these questions and I will attempt to dispel the myths about hypnosis that have come into being through public misinformation and movie and TV misrepresentations.
So let’s begin.
What is hypnosis? Hypnosis or hypnotism is the science of how the human mind works. Hypnosis is an art also because even though there are widely accepted theories about how it works we do not fully understand those mechanisms. Hypnosis is not a religion, is not a belief system, and is not a supernatural power. Hypnotism is the study and the use of the hidden powers of the mind. It is a state of mind in which the critical factor of conscious mind allows direct communication with the sub-conscious or unconscious mind.
Will I give up control of my mind to the hypnotist? The easy answer is no. There are three things you can do with suggestions when you’re in a hypnotic trance. The first is that you can simply reject the suggestion; the second is that you can be indifferent towards the suggestion; and the third and last thing you can do is accept the suggestion with an open mind and a positive mindset that says yes, this is what I want and I embrace it with a positive emotion.
How will I know if I’m in a hypnotic trance? There is no set feeling for what it feels like to be a hypnotic trance. You may feel relaxed you may feel like you’re heavy. Your limbs may feel numb they may tingle or you may have no feelings at all. Or you may feel like your floating. In order to help people understand when they are in hypnosis and when they are not, it is my practice to give them what I called convincers that they will be able to recall once they have been emerged from the trance state. One of the signs that virtually everyone reports is a have heightened sensory acuity. In other words, they hear things and are aware of things that they would not ordinarily see or be aware of.
Will I be asleep? No, in fact, you be more awake and more aware than you are most time even now while you’re listening to this CD.
Can the hypnotist make me do things that are against my morals my personality or my ethical beliefs? No while your conscious mind and the critical factor that allows you to make decisions about what you will do and what you won’t has been open to allow direct positive communication with your unconscious mind. It [the critical factor] is not asleep or unaware of what is going on. If something were to happen or suggestion was given your morally ethically or personally opposed to your critical factor would step in and allow you to reject that suggestion or to immediately emerge you from the hypnotic trance.
What if the hypnotist cannot get me out of hypnotic trance? Very few people refuse to emerge themselves from the hypnotic trance those that do refuse, have found that it is so safe so comfortable and so relaxing that they have chosen to reject the suggestion to come out of the trance, in that case, I have a particular way to bring them back out to a full awareness but if they were not to come out they would simply drift into a normal, natural sleep state and waken in just a few minutes is no more possible to get stuck in hypnosis than it is to get stuck in a daydream.
If I let somebody hypnotize me will it weaken my mind? No hypnosis does not weaken a person’s mind in fact only people with good ability to imagine focus and follow instructions can be hypnotized. Your mind cannot be weakened by hypnosis any more than it can be weakened by you focusing on a project or following instructions given to you in a waking state
Once I’ve been hypnotized, does that mean that anybody can hypnotize me anytime they want to. No, the hypnotist is simply a guide a facilitator or coach that will help you to turn loose and allow yourself to go into a self-absorbed trance. Some theories of hypnosis suggest that all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. Hypnosis cannot be done against your will so the hypnotist would have to have your permission and trust before you allow yourself to go into that hypnotic trance with that hypnotist.
What if the hypnotist tells me something that I disagree with or don’t want to accept? Can I reject it? Yes, remember there are three things you can do with any suggestion you can reject it you can be indifferent towards or you may wholeheartedly embrace it with a positive emotion only the wholehearted acceptance of the suggestion attached with a positive emotion will have any lasting effect on whatever it is you want to change through hypnosis.
Will hypnotist change things that I don’t want changed? No the purpose of hypnotism is for self-improvement if you don’t recognize an area of your life is needing self-improvement then it is off-limits to your unconscious mind to your conscious mind and to the hypnotist.
What kinds of suggestions will hypnotist give me? Before I guide you into a hypnotic trance I will ask you what sorts of things you would like to change and what you would like to hear while in hypnosis I put your ideas and desires and your wants into positive suggestions that are directed towards achieving the goals and the changes that you have set for yourself one another myth that I would like to discuss is that of who can be hypnotized and who cannot. Modern hypnosis has made exponential leaps forward in its understanding and application of hypnosis today many hypnotists believe there are only two classes of people that cannot be hypnotized the first of those people with an IQ of 70 or less second are those people that do not want to be hypnotized many people do not want to be hypnotized have some hesitancy based on a myth or misconception about what hypnotism is. In other words, they’re afraid of it. They don’t know what it does or how will affect them if the CD does not resolve all of the issues that you may have regarding hypnosis please let me know and let me discuss those issues with you in person I look forward to working with you ensuring your success as you learn to use hypnosis to allow the conscious mind and the unconscious mind to communicate with each other so they become powerful allies in your life
