Copy-writing with NLP

Got this in an email and it is such a nice clean piece of NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) that I thought I would share it.

“Summer is winding down, the days are a bit shorter and the nights are a bit cooler. School is back in session and Autumn is just around the corner; it’s a good time to take advantage of the sunny weather and spend some quality time outdoors before the rain starts in earnest.

WELCOME MARY THIMMESCH L.Ac TO OUR CLINIC
We’re excited to welcome a new Acupuncturist to our practice – Mary Thimmesch L.Ac. She’s really excited to join our clinic and meet all of our fabulous clients. To encourage folks to get to know her we’re offering a $10 SPECIAL for all treatments with Mary until October 15th. Her regular shifts will be Monday & Friday evenings 4:00-7:30pm & Saturdays 1-5pm starting next week. Come on in and say “hi”!”

Here is how it breaks down:

Statements that we can know. These are statements we know to be true. This is the part of NLP called Pacing. Here they are:

  • “Summer is winding down” (this was written for Mid-September publication). We can easily agree this is TRUE.
  • “The days are a bit shorter and the nights a bit cooler.” Another statement we know is TRUE.
  • “Autumn is just around the corner.” Right, another statement we can agree is TRUE.
  • “It’s a good time to take advantage of the sunny weather and spend some quality time outdoors before the rain starts in earnest.” Yet another TRUISM.

At this point the writer has made four factual statements that we can agree on as being true. The writer has paced our understanding of our reality and we are in synch with the statements.

Statements that will  Lead the reader to take some action. There is the introductory statement “WELCOME MARY THIMMESCH L.Ac TO OUR CLINIC” with an explanation, “We’re excited to welcome a new Acupuncturist to our practice – Mary Thimmesch L.Ac.” and the unspoken BECAUSE “She’s really excited to join our clinic and meet all of our fabulous clients. To encourage folks to get to know her we’re offering a $10 SPECIAL for all treatments with Mary until October 15th. Her regular shifts will be Monday & Friday evenings 4:00-7:30pm & Saturdays 1-5pm starting next week.” And finally the leading action statements,

“Get to know her” (low threat action)

“Come on in and say “hi”!” (another low threat action)

A footnote to this script is the action required has a very low commitment factor. Simply get to know her and come in and say “Hi!” has little risk.

Great piece of marketing sent to former or current clients/customers of the clinic.
